A group of three books cover images that I like the most from the titles to be released in the current month. Usually I already pre-ordered the titles or own them. I named the section like I did because I like thinking about these covers like they are something that its meant to look.

Pocketful of Sunshine

November 29th, 2010

Vacations; a beautiful word but when getting to know authors you admire come in the same pocket, it’s already heaven on earth.  A few days ago I had the blessing to meet with my best friend, the talented Ann Gatti and went together to a convention where we had the honor to meet many Young Adult writers and share information about new titles scheduled to invade the stands in 2011.  It was an unforgettable experience in so many ways and I felt like a child at a candy store. Between the authors I had the pleasure to meet, there were; Melissa de La Cruz, David Levithan, Rachel Cohn, Carolyn Mackler, Jessica Warman, Lisa McMann, Sarwat Chadda, Sarah Mlynowski, Maggie Stiefvater, Alyson Noel, Matt De la Peña, Joy Preble, Luren Oliver, Andrea Cremer, Ellen Hopkins and Holly Black.   It was an unforgettable moment when I had Ellen Hopkins right in front of me.  It was totally a girly fan moment.  Alyson Noel made my Saturday magical by remembering the question I asked a few months ago in Dallas about The Immortals Series and by mentioning it was the BEST question of the entire tour (Happy Dance!).   Andrea Cremer, Holly Black, Ellen Hopkins, Joy Preble and Lauren Oliver captivated me with their kindness.  It’s incredible that aside from being talented, they’re all so pretty also.  On top of that, I left the convention with a “crush”… poor Nicholas Sparks has been replaced with Matt de La Peña; kind, talented and handsome making the perfect combination.  The girls waiting in line were funny and the signing coordinators told us he causes the same effect wherever he goes, which I’m sure he does /haha/.  My only regret; I missed Carrie Ryan signing event.  Finally, we got some GREAT deals on books; I spent some time with my dearly missed best friend and one or another surprise in Happy Reading terms.  Even though I ended up exhausted, it was an experience I would definitely want to do again just for the great satisfaction of getting to know all these people I admire and enjoy their work. Definitely my pocket was full of sunshine the moment I came back home.

Eager to learn everything she can about her new abilities as an Immortal, Ever turns to her beloved Damen to show her the way. But just as her powers are increasing, Damen’s are waning. In an attempt to save him, Ever travels to the magical dimension of Summerland, where she learns the secrets of Damen’s tortured past; a past which he has always kept hidden from her. But in her quest to cure Damen, Ever discovers an ancient text that details the workings of time. Now Ever must choose between turning back the past and saving her family from the accident that claimed their lives or staying in the present and saving Damen, who grows sicker every day.

Blue Moon is a very good sequel for the new hit series: The Immortals. I felt that the beginning was a little slow but I think it was a time frame to settle where the story was going to. The mayor compliments I can give to Noel is that it shows that she did an excellent work researching about all the spiritual themes the series portraits. One of the most interesting parts we have in this sequel was watching some glimpses of Ever and Damen’s past lives. I think this will be HUGE in future sequels of this series because I think the law of reincarnation will be evolving a huge role in the series. After Ever visited Summerland, the book takes you in a journey that leaves your breath away. We also have a clue of what maybe will be the Riley’s series about. The new characters, even the “bad guys” are great, my favorites; Romy and Rane. The ending was spectacular. I’m looking FW to read Shadowland, the third installment in this series.

My worries with this story are the amount of sequels already programmed to be published because of this two aspects: repetition and extending the story to a bitter point.
